Facial care routine: define it according to your skin type

Whether your skin is normal, oily, dry or combination, it is important to know your skin type in order to provide the necessary care. This diagnosis will result in a care routine that resembles you and will pamper your skin according to its needs.

So how do you know your skin type and what beauty routine to use? Follow the guide!

How to know your skin type?

The type of skin and its needs can be influenced by external factors such as pollution, diet, seasons, smoking… and internal factors such as hormonal variations or diseases. Thus your skin can be dry, oily, normal and mixed.

Each skin type has its advantages and disadvantages, so it is essential to know yours, to sublimate it and love it!

Observe your skin, it speaks to you

By carefully observing your skin in the morning when you wake up, without any products, you will perceive details that will tell you about its nature.

You should observe if your skin :

  • shines or not
  • has imperfections, redness, blackheads
  • tugs at your heartstrings
  • has larger or smaller pores
  • is soft or rough

What is the outcome?

  • Normal skin has a smooth appearance and a fine grain. It is soft and comfortable all day long, without blackheads or redness.
  • Oily skin is shiny and greasy. It presents shine, imperfections and has dilated pores.
  • On the other hand, dry skin is dull and peeling. The pores are not very visible and the skin is tight and red.
  • Finally, a combination skin will have the characteristics of oily skin on the T-zone, and dry skin on the cheeks

To be sure of your diagnosis, you can do the handkerchief test:

Clean your face, dry it and wait 30 min minimum. Then place a tissue on it to press for a few seconds. See where the fatty areas are located (only on the T-zone, everywhere or nowhere)

Which skin care routine for which skin?

When incorporating new products into your skincare routine, wait a month to see its effects and if it works for you.

Simplicity for normal skin

Normal skin is the easiest to care for since it requires little care. A gentle cleansing with our Cacoloé soap and a light moisturizer will do the trick. A scrub and a mask when you feel the need.

Focus on moisturizing for dry skin

Start by cleansing your skin with our Cacoloé, Orange and Apricot, Honey and Oatmeal, or Mukala soap, then apply a rich moisturizer. You can then seal in the moisture with an oil serum.

In the evening, remove your skin with an oil or milk, then repeat the morning routine. You can complete this routine with a nourishing mask once a week to deeply moisturize your skin. A gentle exfoliation can be done once a month to remove dead skin. Finally, drink plenty of fluids to hydrate your skin from the inside out.

Gentle for oily skin

Your oily skin is sensitive, so don’t over-clean it. Start by cleansing with our Kazadi soap, then moisturize with a light, non-comedogenic balancing cream.

In the evening, the same skincare routine is used, with the help of a micellar water to remove make-up.

Once a week, don’t hesitate to make a clay mask with our clay and lemon exfoliating mask to absorb excess sebum.

Find the balance with Combination Skin

Cleanse your face with our rosemary sesame and henna soap and then moisturize it with a rich cream on the cheeks and a lighter one for the T-zone. Twice a week, you can make a scrub and mask with our lemon and clay scrub mask.
